This gem helps us connect directly with our own guardian angels as well as other angelic beings. As blue is the colour of the throat chakra, which governs our communication skills, it aids us in connecting with and creating a dialogue with the angels. You can make elixirs from it but the gem can only be left in the water for approximately 12 hours as it starts to re-crystallise and will loose its polish. This is due to it being very soft, only 3.5 so will bruise and scratch easily as well so has to be handled with respect. It can aid with digestion, when it is golden in colour and can help to energise. There are other colours such as red, green and blue depending on the location it is found and its age. These work well on the root, heart and throat chakras respectively to cleanse them and remove any negative blockages. Chemical composition: C12H20O this can vary as amber is an organic compound coming from various sources around the world. Hardness: 2-3 depending on age and location. Apatite It is most commonly found as blue or yellow in crystal or mass form. Hardness: 2.5 to 3.5 Herderite Metaphysical Properties- Not much is written on this rare and unusual mineral. However, from my understanding herderite is used in the treatment of behavioural problems. Some say it is a good choice to promote the leader within us, it also allows us to be leaders in group settings by bringing harmony and cooperation into group settings. Hydroxyl-herderite forms a series with herderite, representing the end member in which the hydroxyl ion predominates over fluorine. The main deposit is from England. Hardness: 5 to 5.5 Hessonite Garnet It is usually seen in transparent to semi-transparent crystals with a light to dark yellow to reddish orange colour. Is revered for its ability to strengthen the connection between the 7th chakra and the "Divine Flow", it encourages the embodiment of our own Divinity, restoring both innocence and grace. It is a very protective stone which shields us from interference and negative thoughts and teaches us a child-like approach to life. Hessonite Garnet is a 'stone of creativity'. Used on the third chakra, hessonite will stimulate creativity on all levels. It can be used to encourage self-respect, respect of others, and spiritual growth. Hessonite also allows us to say good-bye to outworn or unusable ideas, view, agreements, and behavioural patterns which we have out grown. On the Physical level, hessonite is used to regulate hormone production, stimulates metabolism, fortifies the immune system, and encourages absorption of nutrients. Hessonite Garnet is from the Grossularite mineral species belonging to the Garnet group. The crystal system is cubic and offers a chemical composition of Ca3AL2(SiO4)3. Hardness: 7 Iolite Iolite is a beautiful violet stone that has pleocroic properties changing in colour to yellow, brown or clear as you turn the stone. It has also been known as "water sapphire" and the "violet stone". Iolite is a shamanic stone it activates the third eye and helps with spiritual vision. It promotes clairvoyance and helps to tune into the spirit world. Hardness: 2.5 to 4 Kunzite Kunzite is a lilac pink in colour, and grows in the form of flattened prismatic crystals which are vertically striated. It is said to help one to understand and interact better with others, to help heal "broken hearts", to relieve stress and anger, and to bring love, peace, compassion and harmony into the heart. It opens the heart chakra to trust and aids in security and fear brought on by others. More importantly, Kunzite is seen as a stone of 'balance', it works to create a balance between the physical and emotional bodies. Some feel that this stone will help one to be more disciplined, encouraging one to follow through with their task to the completion. For those who are erratic in their thinking, use Kunzite to allow you to focus on your task at hand. Kunzite works well with other stones, especially its sister, Hiddenite. It is also a stone that helps to remove obstacles. Kunzite also has a fair amount of lithium in its chemical composition; lithium has been proven to relieve depression. Kunzite may not cure depression, but it does help to bring it under control so one can manage it. It is a stone of channeling, altered states, vivid dreams, dream recall, and visualizations, giving protection during these states. It brings loyalty, honesty and tranquillity, diminishing anger and confusion. Kyanite does not retain negative energy and never needs energetic cleansing. It aligns and balances the chakras, often very suddenly and with conscious direction will align the subtle bodies as well, such as the, spiritual, astral and intellectual. Kyanite can remove energy blockages. Green Kyanite is particularly good for balancing the heart chakra and maintaining heart balance. Larimar has been known since the seventies, after inhabitants of a small fishing village decided to find their way to the origin of the secret blue stone which they occasionally discovered in the river bed. They went upstream until they ran up against a rock formation which seemed to be the source of this blue precious stone. Because of its extraordinary blue appearance (depending on the quality, also found as blue-white and blue-green) one can connect this precious gem stone with the heavens, the sea and planet earth as seen from the universe. It belongs to the monoclinic crystal system and is lilac in colour. Lepidolite is a stone of calm, trust, and acceptance. It has a strong relaxing and calming effect. It brings hope and is a stone of transformation in that it helps one get through transitions with trust that everything will ultimately turn out for the best. It engenders and enhances self-love, patience, and optimism. Emotionally, lepidolite is an excellent healer. It greatly decreases stress, anxiety, depression, manic-depression, despondency, PTSD, anger, and other traumas, panic attacks, and addictions. Psychically, lepidolite is used for dream work, rebirthing, and is also good for dream recall. Lepidolite is also a protective stone that brings success in business or career. It helps relieve burdens and increase energy and endurance. It is said to have been used to make soldiers invulnerable. Lodestone has a receptive, attracting energy that attracts power, as well as good fortune, and love. It also guards against infidelity. Lodestone is related to the astrological signs of Aries, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Virgo. Hardness: 6 Malachite Malachite is found mainly in mass form and is a lovely two tone green colour. Malachite is very good at reflecting our own emotions whether positive or negative it can also magnify them so that we become aware of them and their manifesting powers into our physical lives. Because of this care should be taken when wearing malachite; if you feel negative and down don't wear it! Saying that it can help to clear negative energy though enabling us to become more of who we are and to discover our own life's calling. It is said to protect when travelling particularly by air. Hardness: 3.5 to 4.0 Marble Marble is a metamorphosed limestone in rock masses of re-crystallised dolomite, onyx, serpentine, magnesium or calcite. The colour ranges are white, pink, yellow, brown, red and green but can be found in other colours. Metaphysically it is said that marble can aid in meditation; making it more stable and help to expand the mind; making use of its powers while aiding in purification and control of the thoughts. Marble gives a feeling of well-being and nurturing it is said to increase common sense in matters of the heart and home. Marble is a protective stone both physically and emotionally bringing balance into our lives with concern to our worldly effects. Physically it has been used to help heal viral and bacterial infections, sore throats, back pains and to increase flexibility; both physical and mental. It has also been used to give clarity in visions during shamanic journeys. Mica has been used to align the chakra and to remove energy blockages. Be careful not to mistake them for the similar looking boji stones which have a rougher surface. The outside is smooth iron, and the inside is sandstone. They can be used to clear energy blockages and to heal holes in the aura. During rituals or meditation they can be held one in each hand. And act as a protector helping you on your spiritual journey like a guide or good friend. They balance the male, female energies bringing harmony and peace within. They were traditionally been used as Shaman Stones by some of the Native American tribes. Physically they have been used to help with disorders of the veins and arteries, bones and muscles. They are very grounding and can help people who feel very displaced or distant. Hardness: 4 Moldavite Known as the star born stone of transformation moldavite is silica based deep green gemstone of extraterrestrial origin, formed by a meteorite that hit the earth 15 million years ago in Moldavia and belongs to the Tektite family. This truly cosmic gem stands for transformation allowing us to access blocked negative emotions that have been stored up in the limbs and joints that restrict our growth and make us grow old and week. There are many varieties some displaying flashes of colour such as the rainbow moonstone. The traditional moonstone is an opalescent colour that can portray a cat's eye effect. The moonstone helps us to tune into the cycles of life, the idea of the 13 moon month calendar year. As such it promotes the feminine lunar qualities such as receptiveness, intuition, gentleness and sensitivity. It can help calm responses and avoid overreaction. Moonstone is a stone of protection, especially during childbirth, during pregnancy, and while travelling at sea because of this it used to be called the travellers stone. It is also associated with love of all kinds. Physically it aids the pituitary gland and digestive system, obesity, water retention, hormonal problems, menstrual problems. Chakra: Third eye Ajna and Crown Sahasrara Chemical composition: KAlSi3O8 Hardness: 6 Morganite Morganite is a form of beryl and found in masses and prismatic crystals. Its colour ranges from pink to rose. It is known as an angel stone or heart stone as it opens and activates the heart chakra as well as connecting us to the angelic realms. It can bring love to one's life or rekindle old love. As an angel stone, it is known to help with communicating with angels. Morganite also brings compassion, empathy, self-control, and patience. It can also balance emotions and ease the pain of separation. It has been said to be one of the highest frequency stones available. Physically, morganite is used for healing emphysema, tuberculosis, heart disease, breathing problems, and throat problems. Morganite is associated primarily with the heart chakra Anahata, and can open, balance and clear this chakra. Chemical composition: Be3Al2(Si6O18). Hardness: 7.5 to 8.0 Nephrite There are few stones beginning with N that are of interest to me, but the one that does is nephrite jade. This deep green jade is a stone of the heart, and activates the heart chakra helping to balance the emotions and brings about stability. Jade of all kinds is a very protective stone and is particularly good protection for children, against illness, and for psychic protection. It has energetic clearing properties, and is useful to keep with other stones. Nephrite helps to enhance dream work making them more lucid and vivid enabling the dreamer to recall the experiences so that they can improve their waking life with the lessons they learn on the dream plane. Physically, nephrite jade is used in the crystal healing of the physical heart, and kidney problems.
